Avengers: Infinity War is almost here. As is always the case with new Marvel flicks, there are plenty of rumors about which new heroes will get introduced, what cameos we should expect, and what the movie will mean for the company’s overall cinematic universe.

Here’s a closer look at seven rumors currently circulating about Infinity War.

1. The movie may introduce a new, much-anticipated hero

Moviegoers may be meeting another long-awaited fan favorite in Infinity War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo teased that the third sequel for the team of heroes will add yet another new name to Marvel’s already crowded roster. As Anthony Russo recently confirmed to Yahoo Movies, the directors have their “hands full trying to tell the story we have with our pre-existing characters” but “that’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”

So who might this new hero be? The most obvious and widely rumored pick is Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel (teased in an Instagram post above), who will get her own solo movie in 2019. Still, the Russo brothers have refused to confirm the theory, saying, “That’s one we’re going to have to plead the Fifth on.” At this time, it seems unlikely that we’ll get more than a cameo appearance from Larson’s heroine.

2. It has a stunningly big budget

Between the star-studded casts and the costly production, no Marvel movie ever comes cheap. Infinity War is no exception, given its long lineup of stars and international locations. Even so, fans will likely be taken back by the blockbuster’s huge rumored budget.

According to recent reports, the massive film will boast a $1 billion production budget. Per ComicBook.com, the expansive costs will likely be split between two projects: Avengers: Infinity War and the film’s follow-up a year later. If split evenly, that means Infinity War alone will cost a whopping $500 million.

3. Bucky Barnes may return

Another name potentially included on Infinity War‘s long roster? None other than the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan). Though his possible appearance wasn’t addressed by the Russo brothers, his involvement in the upcoming movie was seemingly confirmed in an August 2016 article from The Hollywood Reporter about Stan’s thriller, We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

As /Film first noticed, the article casually notes: “Stan is coming off of Captain America: Civil War, one of the year’s more acclaimed movies that has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. The actor, who recently wrapped the indie I’m Not Here with Maika Monroe and J.K. Simmons, will shoot Avengers: Infinity War early next year.”

Stan himself didn’t comment, but after the release of the trailers and character posters, as well as his Black Panther end-credits cameo, it’s certain that we’ll be seeing Bucky in action this month.

4. Audiences may get another Community cameo

The Russo brothers have delivered some of the most critically successful Marvel movies with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. But some fans may have noticed another common thread in their movies: recurring tributes to the TV comedy, Community.

The Russo brothers were formerly producers on the show and have made fun nods to the comedy in both of their movies — including very brief cameos by Community actors D.C. Pierson, Daniel Pudi (seen in the video above), and Jim Rash.

It looks like that tradition will continue, as Joe Russo told CinemaBlend in 2016. “We’re literally in that phase of the pre-production where we start thinking about those kinds of things, and right now we’re looking for the right part to see who’s a match for the next cameo,” he said. Which Community vet will get the gig remains to be seen.

5. Thanos will kill at least one major MCU character

There have been rumors that an important Marvel figure (or two) will die in the upcoming Infinity War. After all, with such a huge cast of characters, it seems somewhat inevitable that at least one will meet his or her demise.

Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, seemed to hint as much while talking about the film in February 2017. “Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of the entire Marvel cinematic universe, as started in 2008 with the release of Iron Man 1,” Feige said, later adding, “Thanos shows us why he is the biggest, the best, the baddest villain we have ever had.”

Whether or not someone actually dies at the hands of Thanos — and if so, who — remains to be seen. Of course, fans are already busy speculating which of the many characters could be the big bad’s victim. Among the most oft-mentioned names are Vision (who holds the powerful Mind Stone that Thanos will need to complete the Infinity Gauntlet), Gamora, and Captain America. We’ll have to stay tuned to see whether any of these rumors come to fruition in the film.

6. Valkyrie might appear

It seems like every significant character who has ever been in a Marvel movie will appear in Infinity War. Case in point? A new rumor suggests that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who will make her debut in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, will also be showing up in the Avengers sequel.

Talk that Thompson could appear in the film surfaced after the actress posed for a selfie in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the movie is filming. Thompson took some time to comment, but did eventually confirm her appearance.

7. The film will mark a new beginning for the MCU

We already know that Infinity War will mark an end to over a decade’s worth of storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Russo brothers recently teased that the movie will also be a starting point for a new chapter. As Anthony Russo told IGN:

I can’t get into too much detail about who we’re introducing, but these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie. In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they’re going to be the beginning of certain things.

As for what exactly those “beginnings” might be, the Russo brothers haven’t elaborated, but Anthony did make a point of assuring fans that they are striving to make every character choice “feel organic to the storytelling.”

Avengers: Infinity Waris scheduled to hit theaters on April 27, 2018.
